How much does a Sports coach earn in Belgium?

In Belgium a sports coach usually earns between 15 and 20 euro per hour gross when paid as an employee. Your qualification level, the sport and the club determine the exact wage. Many coaches start as volunteers or on a part-time basis, while professional and top-level coaches can earn considerably more.

What is the difference between a Sports coach and an assistant coach?

A sports coach carries final responsibility for the training project: setting objectives, designing the programme and leading athletes during matches. An assistant coach supports that work, for example running drills and helping with warm-ups, but does not carry the same overall responsibility. Assistant coach is often a stepping stone towards a full coaching role.

How big is the demand for sports coaches in Flanders?

Flanders has a rich club and youth sports landscape, so there is a steady demand for coaches across the region. Sports clubs, schools and leisure centres regularly look for people with the right qualification, especially for youth and recreational teams. Enthusiasm and a talent for guiding people count heavily alongside your diploma.

What qualifications do you need as a sports coach?

In Belgium coaching qualifications are structured through Sport Vlaanderen and the sports federations, from Initiator to Trainer B and Trainer A. A first aid certificate (EHBO) is a strong asset because you may have to act in emergencies. The exact level you need depends on the sport and on whether you coach youth, recreational or competitive athletes.
